Family First
Our family was rocked by Jenna's battle with Ovarian Cancer. Like a true warrior she has fought hard. We like to say that she is "winning". Her diagnosis has turned our life upside down and we all have learned to take time to enjoy the small things in life. I also have learned to let go of the things I cannot control and make more time for family.
Professional Career
I am currently a building principal in Batavia Public Schools. I have a B.A. in Elementary Education from Arizona State University, a M.A. in Teaching and Learning from Nova Southeastern University, a M.A. in School Leadership from Concordia University, an ELL endorsement, and an Ed. D. in Leadership in Educational Administration from Aurora University. My dissertation was focused on how principal practices impact quality of teacher collaboration. The purpose of the case study was to investigate the principal leadership practices that influence how professional learning communities are developed and sustained in an elementary school.
This is my second year in my role as principal at Alice Gustafson Elementary and I am currently working with staff, students, and parents to create a meaningful and personal connection to our collective mission, vision, and values. My focus has been building strong relationships with all stakeholders to develop a positive school culture and climate.
Prior to being the principal at Alice Gustafson I was the principal at H.C. Storm Elementary School, where I partnered with staff, parents, and outside organizations to create and sustain a positive school climate and culture. In my time at H.C. Storm I was able to lead several collaborative projects with community organizations. This included the installation of the H.C. Storm Outdoor Classroom and community mosaic mural. A major area of focus during my time at H.C. Storm was the facilitating the implementation of Professional Learning Communities and established student goal setting in math and reading.
Preceding my move to Batavia Public Schools and a move to administration, I held numerous teaching positions that included being a fourth-grade teacher, interventionist, and student services coordinator at Indian Prairie School District 204. As a student services coordinator I collaborated with general education and special education teachers to ensure that our students with IEPs were making academic, social, and behavior progress. In addition, I lead the special education team, dealt with student discipline, and coordinating local and state assessments.
